Your Breast Augmentation Checklist for a Comfortable Experience
Once you’ve decided that a breast augmentation is right for you, the next step is to know how and what to prepare to ensure that your experience is smooth and comfortable. Of course, addressing any questions or concerns about your procedure with your surgeon is one of the best ways to ensure that you’re prepared, but it can help to know what kinds of things to consider. For help getting started, take a look at our checklist of the top five tips to help you get the most out of your breast augmentation experience.
Stop Smoking
If you currently smoke, one of the most important steps to take prior to your breast augmentation is to cease smoking at least four weeks before your surgery date and maintain it for at least four weeks afterward. Smoking can significantly reduce your body’s ability to heal, which can create complications during and after your procedure. Thus, ceasing smoking, at least for this period of time, can help to ensure your safety and optimum results (Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery). Some women even find that getting a breast augmentation is the push they needed to stop smoking altogether.
Do Grocery Shopping and Laundry ahead of Time
Planning ahead for things like groceries, meals, and laundry can make your experience as comfortable as possible. Make preparations so that you can come home following your breast procedure and do nothing but relax and focus on your recovery for a few days. If you have kids or pets, it’s also a good idea to plan for their care in advance so that you have nothing to worry about after your procedure.
Create a Relaxation Zone
Prepping for optimum comfort as soon as you get home is another great tip that goes along with getting daily duties out of the way. But more than simply gathering everything you’ll need, creating a “relaxation zone” takes it a step further. Set up a little in-house oasis for yourself. If your bedroom is the comfiest place in the house, wash your bedding, buy a few extra pillows, and stock your nightstand with everything from lip balm to the TV remote.
Wear Loose-Fitting Clothing
On the day of your breast augmentation, be sure to wear comfy, loose-fitting clothing. Pants with an elastic waistband and a zip-up or button-up top are typically preferred. You may also want to wear slip-on shoes, and remember to leave jewelry at home.
Skip Makeup and Nailpolish
Don’t worry about putting on any makeup on the day of your surgery, and if you wear nail polish, your plastic surgeon will likely ask that you remove it prior to your breast augmentation. He or she may want to check your oxygen levels by looking at the color of your nail beds, so this step is an important one. (Young Women’s Health)

It’s entirely normal to feel both excited and a little anxious prior to your breast augmentation procedure. But by following a few simple steps to prepare yourself first, you can have a comfortable and smooth surgery day and recovery.
