Would I Need a Lift, or can I Get Away with Just the Implant?
If you are considering breast augmentation, will you need a breast lift? Wondering whether you can get away with just implants is a valid question. Since each person has unique needs, and breast augmentation is not a one-size-fits-all approach, it is hard to give a global yes or no answer.
Breast lift and breast implant surgery are two different procedures. They each solve very different problems. They can complement each other or can be performed as a single procedure. So, if you are looking to enhance your breasts, how do you know if you’ll need a lift with your augmentation?
Understanding how much sagging is too much
Sagging can be defined by the position of your nipples, relative to the crease under your breasts. To get a basic idea of your level of sagging, grab a pencil. Lift your breast and place the pencil horizontally in the crease and then release the breast. Then release the pencil. If the breast holds the pencil in place, your breasts have some sagging. If the pencil is level with your nipple, you may only have slight sagging or a grade one level. If the nipple is below the pencil line, you are considered to be a level two or three. Keep in mind; this is a very basic way to gauge your level of sagging. There are a lot of gray areas, and you should consult with our plastic surgeon to get an accurate answer.
Implants don’t solve sagging
If you are looking to increase the amount of breast volume, implants are all that you need. They can produce a beautiful enhancement, but they don’t do any actual lifting. If your initial pencil test showed a higher level of sagging, implants alone might not be enough – and in fact, could make the sagging worse, as your breasts are now heavier. You will have larger breasts, but they will be lower on your chest wall.
A breast lift performed in conjunction with augmentation is a terrific way to create a fuller, perkier breast. A breast lift will address the sagging skin for a more youthful look. In conjunction with implants, you will achieve increased volume and resolve sagging issues.
