Liposuction on the Rise: Now A $1 Billion Market in the U.S.
Cosmetic surgical procedures are on the rise in the United States, and surgeons are recognizing their highest volumes since the Recession in 2008. Of all procedures performed for medical aesthetics, liposuction was the top request in 2013, with over $1 billion being spent nationwide. The results, based on a report by the American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS), were up 16% over the previous year. It has replaced breast augmentation for the top spot.
Reasons for the increase in cosmetic surgical procedures include technology advances, access to less invasive procedures, a better economy, and easier online research tools to find qualified surgeons in many areas. It has been reported by the CEO of RealSelf that web searches on the top five surgical procedures has increased year over year.
The best candidates for liposuction are patients who already concentrate on a healthy diet and exercise as part of their daily regimen. This procedure does not cure or combat all aspects of obesity or get rid of cellulite. If you exercise regularly but still have unwanted belly fat that won’t go away, this is a safe and effective procedure that uses a much smaller incision than past methods required.
While woman tend to gain fat in their stomach, hips, and thighs, men suffer from gaining in their midsections and chest areas. Both men and women can benefit from liposuction treatments from a qualified and reputable plastic surgeon.
