Breast Lift Surgery Pittsburgh
After pregnancy, weight loss, or aging, women’s breasts tend to lose their former volume and shape. That’s why we at Premier Plastic Surgery & Dermatology offer breast lift surgeries that can partially restore the breast’s former shape and volume. Today’s post will discuss what breast lift surgery entails and whom it suits best.
What is Breast Lift Surgery?
Breast lift surgery is a procedure in which excessive breast tissue is removed and skin on the breast it tightened so as to make the breasts appear shapelier. Breast lift surgery is often conducted using the concentric/ periareolar technique. The concentric technique is best for those requiring minimal correction and involves donut-shaped incisions around the areola. The vertical incision technique is better for those who require moderate corrections. The vertical incision technique involves incisions both around the areolar border and down towards the breast crease. For those women who are in need of significant correction, the anchor/keyhole incision technique may be employed. Using this method, incisions are made around the areola and around the breast crease, thus resembling an old-fashioned keyhole. After incisions are made, excessive fat, tissue, and skin are removed, the skin on and around the breast is tightened, and the areola is moved to a higher position.
Fine stitches will be used to close your incision, a special tape will be applied to assist in healing, and Dr. Brian V. Heil will fit you for a support bra. How do I Prepare for Breast Lift Surgery?
We ask that you arrange for someone to drive you home the day of the surgery and stay with you for several days thereafter, so as to ensure that you do not face any major complications. Before your surgery, you should also pick out a wardrobe of loose button-down clothing for the weeks while you are recovering, and have your prescriptions filled and in an easily-available location. We also ask that you keep many pillows on either your bed or couch, so that you can keep your back elevated during recovery.
Who Should Undergo a Breast Lift?
Women who are in generally good health and whose breasts appear stretched, deflated, pendulous, or otherwise misshapen are all potential candidates for breast lift surgery. Ideal candidates should also refrain from smoking and maintain a stable weight (American Society of Plastic Surgeons, American Board of Cosmetic Surgery).
How Much Does It Cost?
The cost of breast lift surgery will vary from patient to patient and according the number of visits required, the incision method that is selected, and if you chose to pair breast implants with your breast lift surgery. We at Premier Plastic Surgery & Dermatology wish to accommodate each patient’s financial situation and offer financing options for those who prefer to pay over several months. If you are interested in learning more about financing, we suggest reading our financing page or calling us at724-264-3608.
What Happens After the Surgery? Are There Any Side Effects?
For at least a week before and several days after undergoing breast lift surgery, we strongly recommend that you abstain from taking medicines which could thin the bloodand complicate blood clotting, such as aspirin, ibuprofen, and St. John’s wort, among other medications. We also ask that you refrain from smoking and excessive drinking for several weeks before your surgery, in addition to maintaining a healthy diet and staying hydrated. Patients should refrain from lifting their arms above their heads for several days after surgery, and abstain from heavy lifting or strenuous activity for several weeks. As long as you do not have a physically-strenuous job, you should plan to be off from work for a week. In addition, we ask that you wear your support bra for at least a month after surgery. If you suffer from any unbearable pain or unusual side effects, please contact Premier Plastic Surgery & Dermatology immediately.
Although we have a highly-trained team at Premier Plastic Surgery & Dermatology, no surgery is risk-free. Women who undergo breast lift surgery often experience bruising, swelling, pain, and sensitivity for several weeks after surgery, and will likely see some scarring as well. Women who undergo this surgery also may experience a heightened risk for infection, bleeding, loss of sensation and feeling in one’s nipples, and asymmetrical breasts. Breast lifts seldom interfere with pregnancy or breast feeding, although pregnancy may affect the shape and volume of one’s breasts (American Society of Plastic Surgeons, WebMD).
