\"\"<\/a>A new classification system for fat cell grafting may improve an already solid medical technique to decrease signs of aging, repair wounds, and enhance body modifications such as breast augmentation.<\/p>\n

Fat cell grafting is the process of removing fat cells from one part of the body and implanting them in another part of the body. This technique is already used with great success, especially to correct the signs of aging. The process is restricted to only certain uses.<\/p>\n

However, those restrictions could soon be over. Pittsburgh plastic surgeons at Premier Plastic Surgery and Dermatology are taking note. Health and wellness practitioners at Acqua Blu Medical Spa are also on notice of the changes taking place with this medical practice. In fact, it seems as if the entire industry is closely examining the new classifications. Dr. Daniel Del Vecchio and Dr. Rod J. Rohrich, the chair of plastic surgery at the University of Texas Southwestern, recently published an article about this matter in the journal for the American Society of Plastic Surgeons. Dr. Rohrich states:<\/p>\n

\u201cFat grafting is here to stay, but we are in the process of defining how to use it. The possibilities are very exciting-including the use of a person\u2019s own stem cells within the fat cells to support the regeneration of fat.\u201d<\/p>\n

The classification system recommends that practicing plastic surgeons consider four factors when grafting fat cells to repair wounds, breast augmentations, and more. Those principles are:<\/p>\n

– Method of fat harvesting
\n– Method of cell processing
\n– Method of fat transplantation
\n– Management of the recipient site<\/p>\n

By thinking about each of these four notions, plastic surgeons can now cater fat grafting techniques to the individual needs of patients even better than before. The idea here is that consideration of these four classification systems may reveal the increased benefits of using stem cells to regenerate fat cells more often in the future.<\/p>\n

\u201cMuch work is left to be done,\u201d Rohrich said. \u201cWe can\u2019t yet say we are doing a stem cell facelift or stem cell breast augmentation or breast reconstruction. But the potential is there, and these guidelines will help us as a profession to conscientiously advance this important branch of medicine. We must be careful to keep applying the scientific method and not the marketing method.\u201d<\/p>\n
