A recent report<\/a> by the medical journal of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons notes that adolescent male self-esteem and self-image are negatively affected by gynecomastia. More commonly known as male breasts, gynecomastia causes excess deposition of fat tissue around the breast area. This type of body flaw has been shown to compromise physical and mental health of growing teenage boys. While this disorder is common in boys that are overweight, the recent study by the American Society of Plastic Surgeon found that even males with mild breast enlargement experienced long-term detrimental effects. \"Gynecomastia<\/a><\/p>\n

In response to this information, many surgical centers are now offering treatment options for gynecomastia in males of all ages. After careful evaluation of a complete health history as well as assessment of current physical goals and emotional status, many teenage boys may prove to be suitable candidates for this type of interventional treatment.<\/p>\n

Physicians point out that for almost one in ten boys, this problem does not resolve over time. Some teenagers may notice that the problem gets better if they lose weight. However, true glandular enlargement and excess skin tissue cannot be resolved with weight loss.
