Breast Augmentation

Breast Augmentation at Premier Plastic SurgeryBreast Augmentation creates larger breasts through the placement of breast implants behind your existing breast tissue or chest muscles. There are many reasons for having breast enlargement. Perhaps you feel that your breasts are too small; your breasts may have lost volume or their youthful shape after pregnancy; or your breasts may be different sizes and you'd like them to be more symmetrical.

Today, breast augmentation is safer than ever. Some women prefer silicone breast implants for their natural feel, and with the clearance by the FDA, you can feel secure that they are just as safe as the saline breast implants. At Premier we will discuss breast implants and incision sites with you to determine the choice that is most appropriate for you.

At Premier Plastic Surgery, our surgeons are able to improve or correct all of these problems with the placement of breast implants. Proper breast augmentation is not a "cookie-cutter" procedure where the same technique is applied to every patient. Every person has differences unique to them, and, as board-certified plastic surgeons, we always take these factors into account. Some important things we consider are a patient's overall height and weight, the size and shape of the underlying chest and ribcage, the tightness and elasticity of the skin, and the amount of breast tissue a patient has naturally.

Just as important as the physical factors are the goals and expectations each patient has. We do not have an agenda to make every woman a C cup. Some women prefer smaller augmentations, and wish to end up with a modest B cup, while others feel more confident with a D cup. Our role as plastic surgeons is to help our patients achieve their goal appearance, using the experience and knowledge of anatomy to advise patients on how best to reach that goal during your consultation.

For someone thinking about breast augmentation, there are many other choices to be made, including the location of the incision, whether to place the implant under or over the chest muscle, and what type of implant to use. We have a lengthy discussion about these different choices with every patient, so that they feel confident they will get the best result possible.

Breast Reconstruction

Breast Augmentation at Premier Plastic SurgeryBreast reconstruction surgery allows women who have lost a breast to cancer or disease to restore their previous appearance. In the past, performing breast reconstruction surgery at the same time as a mastectomy used to be controversial, but multiple studies have shown that the procedure is safe. Large studies indicate there is no increased recurrence if a patient has undergone breast reconstruction, and complication rates for a breast reconstruction performed at the same time as the mastectomy compared to the procedures separately are no higher.

There are various techniques used for breast reconstruction, including using a woman’s own tissue or saline or silicone implants. According to a very recent study, women who had breast reconstruction had better survival odds than women who did not. Some experts attribute this finding to a feeling of better health among the women, which contributed to healthier lifestyles after the procedure by following up with their doctors after and taking better care of themselves.

Plastic surgery procedures, like breast reconstruction, have been able to restore feelings of loss, helping patients that felt self-conscious and different regain confidence. Although the breast reconstruction will not feel or look like it did prior to the breast being removed, a woman is able to restore her figure. After discussing breast reconstruction with an oncologist, the patient can decide if the surgical procedure is right for her.

Breast Reduction

Breast Lift at Premier Plastic SurgeryBreast reductions have been, and continue to be, a very effective way to reduce breast size that can often cause major discomfort and pain. Unlike other cosmetic procedures, some breast reductions are performed for medical reasons, not just cosmetic. Oversized breasts can cause back and neck pain, skin irritation, skeletal deformities and breathing problems, and a breast reduction surgery has the ability to eliminate these problems.

In addition to the physical constraints overly large breasts can cause, there are also emotional and social difficulties a woman can experience. Luckily, breast reductions are being performed in a safe and effective manner, allowing women to be relieved the excess weight, pain and self-consciousness.

Although it can take months to reach full recovery from a breast reduction, many women find the change in appearance results in a dramatic positive shift in body image views.

Breast Lift

Pregnancy, breastfeeding, losing weight and gravity all have an affect on breasts. Breasts once perky and firm can soon start to droop. Breast lift is a cosmetic procedure that allows women to regain more youthful appearing breasts by making them higher and firmer. By moving the nipple position that can turn downward over time and tighten the skin, a breast lift can have extremely pleasing results.

In some cases, women with large sized breasts will experience the effects of gravity even more than smaller chested women because of the additional weight and will choose to undergo a breast reduction and breast lift. In other cases, women desire a breast lift because their breasts are not symmetrical. When the breasts are not the same size, women can choose to get breast implants, in order to even out the sides along with the breast lift.

After the breast lift surgery, patients should expect bruising, swelling and some discomfort, but this will all subside with time to reveal a more natural, firmer and more youthful pair of breasts. In addition to an uplifted appearance, the patient will also enjoy better positioned areolas and nipples.

Gynecomastia

Gynecomastia at Premier Plastic SurgeryAn estimated 40 to 60 percent of men are affected by gynecomastia, which is the medical term for male breast overdevelopment. There have been certain drugs and medical problems linked to gynecomastia, but there is no known cause in most cases. Among teenage boys, 90 percent of the time gynecomastia will usually go away in less than three years. For the other 10 percent left with the male breast overdevelopment, the condition can be embarrassing and lead to some social inhibitions.

For men wishing to do something about their gynecomastia but who have been unable to reduce the size through diet and exercise, cosmetic surgery can be an option. Affecting one breast or both, gynecomastia surgery is able to remove fat and or glandular tissue from the breasts, resulting in a more toned and flat appearance. Women have always accounted for the majority of cosmetic surgery procedures, but men are slowly catching up and are realizing procedures like gynecomastia surgery can help with areas of their body that have not responded to other healthy means.

Like all cosmetic surgery, there are both benefits and risks, which must be carefully weighed with a qualified cosmetic surgeon.
