Liposuction can be performed on any area of the body with excess pockets of fat. The best candidates for liposuction will have good skin elasticity that is able to reach the smoothest contours after the fat has been removed. Liposuction is not intended to treat obesity and will be the most effective when performed on patients that exercise and follow a healthy diet but have problematic areas of fat that do not respond to traditional weight loss methods.
Since there is no such thing as spot training, certain patients will have a natural disposition for storing pockets of fat in certain areas, most commonly in the hip, thigh, and stomach area in women and in the stomach, “love handle”, and chest areas in men. Over the years, surgical and technological advances have allowed liposuction to be a safe and effective cosmetic procedure when performed by a qualified and reputable plastic surgeon. Unlike in the past when liposuction was considered a risky procedure that required large incisions and an aggressive motion to remove the fat, incisions do not have be as large to fit more advanced liposuction instrumentation.
The surgery has limitations, as all cosmetic procedures do, and liposuction should not be substituted for dieting and exercise and is unable to effective treat cellulite. Because liposuction is an invasive procedure, it is extremely important for all candidates to weigh both the benefits and risks of the surgery with their surgeons prior to deciding if they are qualified to undergo the cosmetic contouring.
Abdominoplasty, or surgery of the abdomen or “tummy tuck,” is a cosmetic procedure designed to firm and smooth the skin. Although diet and exercise will have a lot to do with how much fat is stored in the abdominal region, sometimes the desired result can still be extremely difficult to achieve. For women, after having children, the pregnancies can leave the abdominal region loose and unresponsive to diet and exercise. An abdominoplasty is best suited for both women and men already in relatively good shape but who desire a smoother, flatter stomach.
Depending on the amount of fat that must be removed, some patients will benefit more from a mini abdominoplasty or liposuction than from a full abdominoplasty. Mini abdominoplasty is able to achieve a flatter stomach if a patient is dissatisfied with the area beneath the navel. Female patients who are unsure if they might become pregnant in the future or plan on becoming pregnant at some time must discuss the possibility of an abdominoplasty with their qualified surgeon. Depending on the patient’s skin elasticity and muscle tone, liposuction instead of an abdominoplasty may be more appealing should pregnancy be in future plans.
It will take a few months before the final result of an abdominoplasty is evident, but patients will be able to enjoy their new shape. The scars from the surgical procedure will fade with time, but they will never fully go away. Many patients believe the scars are a worthwhile tradeoff for a sleeker, more toned appearing abdomen. As with any surgical procedure, abdominoplasty patients should carefully consider the benefits as well as the risks of the procedure.
For patients who have succeeded in losing a significant amount of weight there is little that is more disappointing than having unflattering excess of skin. Loose, sagging skin detracts from the appearance of a trimmer, healthier body and hides your new body shape. Fortunately, we are able to remove extra skin and improve your contour by performing a procedure known as a body lift. The goal of the surgery is to smooth and tighten the skin and surgically remove the excess skin, revealing the slimmer physique beneath. The best candidates for this procedure have healthy skin with good elasticity.
The Thigh Lift, also known as Thighplasty, reduces the size of your upper thigh so that it is in proportion to the buttocks and the rest of your body, improving overall body contour. The procedure rids the loose, hanging skin in the thigh and buttocks, which tends to remain on a patient’s body following significant weight loss.
A thigh lift may be performed with other body contouring procedures like an arm lift or tummy tuck. Incisions for thigh lifts vary depending on your skin's texture and laxity. Many thigh lifts focus on the inner thigh, but outer lifts that include the buttock region are also available. Your plastic surgeon will determine the best procedure for your desired result during your consultation.
The Arm Lift, or Brachioplasty, is a surgical procedure that lifts, tightens and re-contours the arm by removing excess skin and fat deposits. As we age, or if major weight loss occurs, the upper arm begins to sag due to the great affect of gravity, skin laxity, thinning skin, muscle and fat tissues. An Arm Lift does not affect muscle tone, and normal physical activity is not only possible but highly recommended once recovery is completed.
An Arm Lift can be performed in conjunction with liposuction of the upper arm and other body contouring procedures, but it not recommended for patients who have had mastectomy surgery. You will want to discuss the restrictions for an Arm Lift in detail with your surgeon if you have undergone a mastectomy.
People who have had major weight loss and post bariatric surgical patients can benefit greatly from an arm lift procedure as well as other procedures like a face lift, tummy tuck, thigh lift and body lift. Significant skin sagging can greatly affect your appearance after losing excessive weight.
Buttock Lift is a procedure that can have dramatic results. It gives you the appearance of a tighter more attractive buttock and improves the overall shape and contour of your upper legs and thighs. The goal of a Buttock Lift is to decreases the irregularities in the skin surface, leaving you with a less saggy, dimpled appearance. If you are self conscious about the appearance of your lower body and feel it is out of proportion and saggy in comparison to the rest of your shape, this procedure may suit your needs.
