Dr. Anna WootenDr. Anna Wooten is a highly qualified and experienced plastic surgeon. In addition to the many patients she treats at Premier Plastic Surgery, Dr. Wooten graduated from a Plastic Surgery Fellowship at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC). Dr. Wooten's skills, scholarship and capabilities have made her a most welcome and integral member of the Premier Plastic Surgery team.

Education, Scholarship
Dr. Wooten earned her medical degree from the East Carolina University Brody School of Medicine in Greenville, North Carolina, with a medical residency in general surgery at Western Pennsylvania Hospital in Pittsburgh. She is the principal author and co-author of surgery-related publications on topics such as postbariatric plastic surgery, breast conservation, management of anticoagulation during perioperative cutaneous surgery, and reconstruction of abdominal wall defects.

Presentations to Medical Peers
Dr. Wooten has given and continues to give many informative presentations on current topics and issues in plastic surgery, in areas such as lip reconstruction, multistage facial reconstruction, vertical reduction mammoplasty, lower extremity lymphedema, nasal tip infection, and gender reassignment surgery. Her clarity and comprehensive knowledge of the topics presented have garnered her excellent feedback from other surgeons and students of medicine. She recently received a Best Reconstructive Paper award from American Society of Plastic Surgery at the annual National meeting in Pasadena, California.

Passion for Research
A commitment to research reflects Dr. Wooten's passion for the progress being made in the field of plastic surgery. Her past and current participation in research projects has focused on:

  • the treatment of cubital tunnel syndrome
  • the use of the anticoagulant warfarin in certain surgeries
  • obstructive sleep apnea in patients with pharyngeal flaps
  • the boomerang procedure for correction on gynecomastia

Interests
Dr Wooten feels that art of plastic surgery has no boundaries. She traveled to Canada to learn directly from the founders of vertical mastopexy/vertical reduction their technique. She further traveled Brazil to learn the unique technique of vertical mastopexy with pectoralis sling, subfascial breast augmentation, endoscopic facial rejuvenation. She worked in Honduras with children with multiple congenital birth defects including absence of ear, cleft lip and palate. She performed several surgeries to reconstruct ear from a rib cartilage during those missions.

Dr. Wooten welcomes and encourages questions from patients. She feels that an open-ended dialogue between a surgeon and patient provides the best foundation for a successful plastic surgery outcome.
