A Year of Firsts
Looking back at 2007, it was a year filled with firsts. We added our state-of-the-art surgical suite, Dr. Anna Wooten joined our practice, and we introduced the latest innovations in aesthetic procedures including ProLipo body contouring and ProFractional facial rejuvenation. Plus, as one of the nations leading authorities on BOTOX and Juvederm, Allergan has designated Premier Plastic Surgery as a "National Education Facility". This status is only awarded to the highest-level users in the country. In addition, Dr. Heil is continuing to work with Sciton Laser to pioneer the use of ProLipo as well as train other plastic surgeons on the use of ProLipo.
Looking Ahead
The year ahead holds even more exciting additions and expansions. We’ll be opening the Acqua Blu Medical Spa & Skin Care Center in Upper St. Clair in March. This contemporary, 5,000-square-foot spa and boutique in the heart of suburban Pittsburgh will offer the latest medical-grade skin care products, laser and light therapies, and non-invasive cosmetic treatments.
We’re also expanding our services in Butler County, where Dr. Wooten will be accepting new patients.

The New Year approaches, filled with all sorts of possibilities. As we look ahead, this is when we begin to think about resolutions – making changes to help us create the kind of life we want.

| Fraxel vs. ProFractional: What’s the Difference? |

It can be a challenge to sort out the facts from the marketing hype when it comes to skin rejuvenation. It seems as if there’s a newer, better option for fresher, younger-looking skin every other week!

A relatively new treatment called fractional laser technology has been creating a great deal of buzz for its ability to improve wrinkles, scars and skin texture with results similar to more ablative (cutting) laser treatments – but without the downtime.
How the Technology Works
Fractional laser treatments produce thousands of tiny but deep columns of infrared light called microthermal treatment zones. These columns penetrate deep into the dermis, stimulating the body’s production of collagen and elastin.

But for every microthermal zone the laser “zaps,” it leaves the surrounding tissue unaffected. This "fractional" treatment enables the skin to heal much faster than if the entire area were treated at once. It’s been likened to using little depth charges to stimulate collagen production – the treated areas stimulate the body's natural healing process to create new, healthy tighter tissue to replace skin imperfections.

A Newer, Better Fractional Technology
The first fractional laser technology to hit the marketplace was called Fraxel. Here at Premier, we adopted a wait-and-see attitude before investing in this laser. And are we glad we did – because a newer, better treatment option really did come along!
Faster Results, Fewer Treatment Sessions
It’s the ProFractional device from Sciton. Like the Fraxel, it creates micro-thermal zones, but what sets it apart is the precision with which its laser energy is delivered. With the ProFractional, healing is faster and virtually painless.
Plus, results can be achieved in fewer treatment sessions – so patients see improvement faster and recovery time is shorter. “While some patients may still need 4 or 5 treatments, you can see good results with fewer,” Dr. Heil notes.
What’s more, ProFractional works well in combination with the Sciton laser’s MicroLaserPeel (MLP), for a fast, easy combination treatment that’s especially effective for shallow acne scars.
