Dysport Can Help You Achieve the Beautiful Skin You Deserve

Fine lines and wrinkles are among one of the most common complaints seen in a plastic surgeon and dermatologist office. However, the world of facial aesthetics can be quite overwhelming with the multitude of treatment options. One defining specification that assists in narrowing down treatment options is when a patient is not willing to go under the knife in order to rid themselves of their fine lines and wrinkles. That is when a product, such as Dysport®, is recommended.

For quite a while, Botox® has held a firm grip on the facial aesthetics market to rid one’s fine lines and wrinkles. In 2009, Dysport® was given approval by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to treat the frown lines between the eyebrows. Both drugs have also been approved for other cosmetic and medical uses, and doctors administer them widely to smooth wrinkles in a variety of other areas.

How Dysport® Works

Over time, repeated muscle contractions on our face in conjunction with consistent exposure to environmental elements, causes fine lines and wrinkles. Dysport® is a prescription injection for temporary improvement in the look of moderate to severe frown lines between the eyebrows in adults less than 65 years of age. Dysport® is injected into specially designated spots in the glabella lines (in between the eyebrows), forehead, and/or crow’s feet (wrinkles on the outer corner of the eyes), blocking the signal from the nerve to the muscles, ultimately resulting in a reduction of muscle activity and temporarily preventing contraction of the muscles that cause those fine lines and wrinkles. On average, Dysport® lasts between 3-4 months.

What is Dysport® Made From?

Like Botox®, Dysport® is a type A Botulinum toxin, which means that it is a highly refined protein commonly used to relax muscles and inhibit sweating. It is a protein that is encased in other non-toxin proteins. The difference between Dysport® and Botox® is that Dysport® has fewer of the surrounding non-toxin proteins, making it a smaller molecule. That allows the Dysport® to spread a bit more and has the ability to take effect a bit sooner compared to Botox®. In some areas, there is a softer transition from the treated area to the untreated area, creating a “softer” look.

Am I a Candidate for Dysport®?

Dysport® is recommended for men and women between the ages of 18-65 who wish to take their aging process in control and aim to turn back the clock to create a younger, more relaxed appearance.

The Dysport® Procedure

Dysport® injections take place in our offices and takes about 10 minutes. After the treatment areas are cleansed with an alcohol swab, a series of small injections are administered. The injected areas can result in redness and small bumps, but usually fades within a few hours. It is important to have a trained healthcare professional administer Dysport® as it spreads out a bit further than other injectables, making it necessary to know precisely how to inject it. All of our providers are very skilled in administering Dysport® injections and will discuss the procedure and your best options at the beginning of each appointment. It is important to note that patients are not to lie down or exercise for 4 hours post procedure.
