Premier Plastic Surgery Pittsburgh Dermatology Center Can Help Decrease Cases of Melanoma
Melanoma outcomes were the focus in a recent study by a 3rd year medical student, Savina Aneja, B.A.. Aneja presented her discoveries at the 2011 annual meeting of the Society of Dermatology. This study took a look at the correlation between the number of dermatologists in a region of the United States and the mortality rate of patients with this serious type of skin cancer. The east and west coasts of the U.S. have a high number of physicians who specialize in treating skin cancer while the central portion of the country has relatively few. Our Pittsburgh dermatology center can provide you with the skin care attention you need to prevent or treat skin disorders.
According to Ms. Aneja’s study, she found that there was a 35% decrease in mortality in melanoma cases on the coastal regions due to the abundant number of dermatologists practicing there. Having oncology departments at the local hospital was also a contributing factor to successful outcomes. The central portion of the country, which had more family doctors and fewer dermatological specialists, had a much lower survival rate for this type of skin cancer than on the coasts. Having 2 to 4 dermatologists for every 100,000 residents was a predictor of high survival rates while anything less predicted more deaths from the disease.
In summing up her findings, Ms. Aneja proposed that more dermatologists be drawn to these less densely populated central regions by giving them incentives to set up their practices there in order to treat this population. She proposed incentives such as offering help with student loan repayments if the doctor contracted to work there for a specific amount of time and offering dermatology residences in the region, as well. This study was undertaken to find more ways to cure melanoma across the board. It appears it’s not just medical diagnosis and treatment that improves patients’ chances of survival but making sure there are enough dermatologists in all regions to treat them.

Liposuction Has Positive Health Benefits
For years, people have been enjoying the benefits of liposuction. Pittsburgh residents and people across the world have had this procedure done to remove fat that won’t respond to exercise or dieting. According to new research, the positive effects of the cosmetic surgery go beyond the aesthetic pleasure of getting a trimmer, more toned body.
Researchers found that liposuction significantly lowered the triglyceride level in patients who had high levels before surgery. Presenting their findings at the annual meeting of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, the group shared the surprising truth that the procedure actually had twice the effect that cholesterol-lowering drugs did in the selected patients. Experts say the findings may change commonly held beliefs about what kind of fat is most harmful to the body.
The benefits don’t end there. Getting liposuction in Pittsburgh can also reduce your white blood cell count. These cells can collect in the body and are associated with inflammation and heart disease. If you are worried about your heart health because of your diet or family history, or you have high cholesterol, you have some great reasons to talk to a doctor about cosmetic surgery. You can look better, feel better and get healthy all in one move.
They don’t know if these health benefits are long lasting or if the impact on heart disease is significant, but the findings are still interesting, especially because some people have a low opinion of liposuction. Pittsburgh residents should know that this procedure has value beyond vanity, so don’t rule it out for yourself too quickly. Every year, doctors get better and better at performing these surgeries. It is hard to deny the fact that the positive benefits outweigh the risks. If you have been on the fence, now may be the perfect time to go in for a procedure.

Did You Know August Was Hair Loss Awareness Month?
The American Academy of Dermatology designated August as Hair Loss Awareness Month. Across the country and around the world, hair loss is an inevitable part of life for many individuals and can be frustrating or downright devastating. By promoting awareness in August each year, The Academy of Dermatology would like to emphasize the fact that you don’t have to hide the problem. In fact, the problem can often be resolved or reversed by a dermatologist.
Pittsburgh men and women experiencing adverse or unwanted hair loss can learn more by visiting a dermatology clinic near them. Premier Plastic Surgery has three locations within the Tri-State Area and are pleased to offer the services of Dr. Ana Busquets, MD, FAAD. Dr. Busquets is board-certified and a Fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology. She can help answer your questions about hair loss and determine if your problem is treatable or simply temporary. Many benign conditions such as alopecia can cause hair loss and new moms should be aware that hair loss is very common after childbirth. Both situations are usually temporary and hair grows back to normal in a short time when the stressful or hormonal period normalizes.
“Many people think that hair loss is permanent,” Dr. Busquets claims. “But we want to use the month of August to raise awareness about the reversible or temporary causes of hair loss that can be treated.”
Contact Dr. Busquets today at http://www.premierplasticsurgerypa.com/dermatologist-pittsburgh.html if you are concerned about hair loss and looking for a dermatologist. Pittsburgh patients can be reassured that hair loss is very natural, but that there are often ways to stop or reverse the process.

The Basics of the Tummy Tuck
If you’re thinking of getting plastic surgery in Pittsburgh, there are few procedures that can make as dramatic a difference as the tummy tuck. Also known as an abdominoplasty, a tummy tuck in Pittsburgh means removing any loose skin you might have around your abdominals, while simultaneously going in and strengthening the abdominal wall for increased tightness and strength. The end result is a tummy you can be proud of.
Many women and men who choose to get a tummy tuck in Pittsburgh are those who have recently lost a tremendous amount of weight. This can be an exciting time for a person. Finally, you have gotten control of your health and become a master of the gym. You were delighted to see the pounds drop off until one day, you reached your goal weight. What a rush to see that number on the scale! Unfortunately, you may not have been half as happy with what you saw in the mirror.
Losing a lot of weight can leave a lot of loose skin in its wake. Unless the amount of weight lost was small, or you are very young, the skin isn’t just going to snap back. This is why some people turn to plastic surgery in Pittsburgh, allowing them to take that final step towards getting the body they’ve been dreaming of. If you qualify, a good plastic surgeon can remove that unsightly loose skin and give you something to be proud of when you look in the mirror.

Summer Shape-Up and Breast Augmentation Surgery
As we get closer to the time of year when we are showing more skin and wearing less clothes, many men and women across the country are looking to plastic surgery. Pittsburgh patients should familiarize themselves with Premier Plastic Surgery and the extensive line of surgical and minimally-invasive procedures they offer. One of the most popular procedures as bikini season approaches is the breast augmentation. Pittsburgh ends up looking better all around!
Most patients looking for breast augmentation Pittsburgh have the same questions: What type of implant should I get? And how big is too big? Most women prefer silicone implants because they feel more natural than the saline version. With advances in technology, silicone implants are just as safe as saline and fully cleared by the FDA. When it comes to deciding on size, the biggest factor tends to be personal preference. However, there are a number of prosthetics and computer software options that can help ensure you choose the size that is right for your body shape and frame. Too often, women go too big and end up looking awkward. Occasionally, women decide to go too small and have to pay extensive revision fees to get the size they really wanted.
Keep all of these things in mind when considering breast augmentation. Pittsburgh women will be looking in tip top shape in their skimpiest bikinis this summer. Options for plastic surgery Pittsburgh are shaping the horizons of the beaches and boardwalks.

Considering Liposuction in Pittsburgh? Prepare for Your Recovery!
Considering liposuction? Pittsburgh cosmetic surgery center Premier Plastic Surgery utlizes a fairly straightforward procedure, but patients who are interested in it should take the time to plan for their recovery period to ensure that they are happy with their results and have sufficient time to recover after the procedure. You will probably be surprised by how short the recovery ends up being.
First, you should not plan to stay at the hospital or surgery center after liposuction. Typically it is an outpatient procedure. You may be asked to wear compression garments after your treatment to protect you from a complication called “seromas.” While these cannot prevent them altogether, they can help.
Your return to work will depend largely on the type of work you do. If your job is fairly low-key, such as a desk job, you may be able to return within a couple of days after your procedure. If it is a highly physical job, your doctor may want you to rest for a few more days to avoid straining the vulnerable areas. Since liposuction does not cut the tissue far below the skin, a lengthy rest period is not necessary. In fact, it is recommended that you walk around your house and outside within a day or two of surgery to prevent any blood clots in your legs or lungs.
Bruising, swelling, and tenderness of the treated area are all common and usually dissipate within a few days. If you have liposuction in Pittsburgh and notice any extreme pain or excessive swelling, you should contact your surgeon to ensure there is not a blood clot or other complication developing. Otherwise, recovery is fairly straightforward and you should be back at your normal activities in a few days with no real difference other than a trimmer body.

Rosacea Treated By Doctors of Dermatology in Pittsburgh

The appearance of a person’s skin can be improved or enhanced by visiting a doctor who specializes in Dermatology. Techniques range from revitalizing one’s complexion via various methods or healing conditions such as Rosacea or acne. Acne is quite well known throughout much of the population but Rosacea, which is also relatively prevalent, is not.
Rosacea is sometimes referred to as a condition that imitates other skin diseases. Sufferers sometimes think they have a flare-up of pimples, an allergic reaction or are just embarrassed often. This malady shows up in a variety of ways. One manifestation is to have small pimples spread over one’s face. Another is to have ongoing redness or an occasional flush of deep pinkness. There may also be a burning or stinging sensation in the regions that are reddening.
Dermatologists aren’t sure exactly what causes this condition but have found that contributing factors include spicy foods, hot beverages, anger, embarrassment, stress, hot weather and taking extremely high temp showers or baths. This disease seems to run in families as well.
Many sufferers think that these flare-ups are temporary and may ignore them or try to wait it out. Unfortunately, this isn’t a good idea because the symptoms seem to escalate over time. Seeing a doctor of Dermatology in Pittsburgh is a wise move since treatments are available. Light Treatments, Oral antibiotics and topical ointments have shown to clear up or lesson the symptoms.

Breast Implants: One Size Does Not Fit All
For women who are seeking breast augmentation in Pittsburgh, Premier Plastic Surgery is a practice to schedule a consultation with. This is not a “one size fits all” surgical enhancement. There are lots of choices to make including size, incision location and where the implant will be placed. A plastic surgeon is specially trained to provide guidance in each of these areas to their patients.
Whether a patient decides to have a B, C, or D cup bra size will depend on her personal preferences as well as her body shape and proportion. It’s important to make a careful selection so that the results are natural as well as beautiful. Incisions can be placed in several spots in order to hide any telltale scarring. Implants may be placed in front of or behind the chest muscle. Saline and silicone implants are available in different shapes, sizes and protrusions. Silicone offers a natural look as well as feel. The FDA approved their safety for public use and many women are opting for them over saline. These are all important details to discuss during a consultation with your plastic surgeon in order to get individual guidance.
When a woman decides to augment her breasts, it’s wise to make an appointment with a plastic surgeon at Premier Plastic Surgery in order to gather information. For patients seeking breast augmentation in Pittsburgh, it’s important to get advice from an expert.
